Accessibility

We want RoomForGems and this website to work for as many people as possible, including older readers and people who use a screen reader, large type or a keyboard. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We have not had an outside audit, so we can say what we aim for, not that we meet it everywhere.

What we do

• Large text by default, a typeface designed to be easy to tell letters apart, and colours checked for contrast.
• Every swipe in the app also has a button, and there is always undo.
• We label the controls for screen readers. This website can be used with a keyboard and has a skip link.
• Motion is reduced if your phone is set to reduce it.

Where it falls short

Choosing which photo to keep is a visual task. If you cannot see the pictures, the app cannot tell you which one is best. To help, each photo is read out with its type, size and whether it is a favourite or protected, and the app only suggests: nothing is deleted until you confirm in your phone’s own dialog. Favourites and protected photos are left out of suggestions. Even so, someone you trust may need to look at the pictures with you.

Tell us about a problem

If something is hard to use, email support@roomforgems.com and say what you were trying to do, the phone or browser you used, and any assistive technology. We will reply and fix what we can.
