Privacy and safety

What RoomForGems does with your phone, in plain words

Everything happens on your phone; no photos leave it. Here is what the app sends, what it never does, and the code from other companies inside it.

Planned store privacy labels

Our planned App Store privacy label

Usage Data: not linked to you

Our planned label, until the App Store approves the app: Data Not Linked to You › Usage Data (product interaction). Nothing in “Data Used to Track You”, and nothing “Linked to You”.

Our planned Google Play data safety answers

App activity: collected for analytics, not shared

Our planned answers, until Google Play approves the app: Data safety › App activity (app interactions), collected, not shared with third parties, and you can switch it off in Settings.

What the app collects

  • Anonymous usage events, such as “a scan finished” or “the unlock was bought”, so we can tell whether the app works.
  • Sizes only as broad ranges (for example “2 to 5 GB”), never exact numbers.
  • No name, no email, no account, and no advertising identifier.
  • We ask PostHog not to store IP addresses.
  • Events are never tied to a person: no sign-in, no profile, no “identify” call.
  • In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland (by your phone's region) the events are off until you turn them on when the app first opens. Everywhere else they are on by default, with a notice when the app first opens.
  • In every country you can switch the events off or on at any time in the app's Settings.

What it never does

  • Upload your photos, videos, file names or the small fingerprints used to find similar shots.
  • Ask you to create an account or give an email address.
  • Show ads, or include advertising or attribution SDKs.
  • Ask for permission to track you across other apps.
  • Sell your data or share it for advertising.
  • Show fake alerts, countdowns, or warnings about your phone.
  • Ask for Android's “all files access”. It uses the normal photo and video permission.
  • Delete anything without your phone's own confirmation.

Every SDK inside the app

An SDK is code from another company. This is the list of the services and code libraries we know about that run inside the app on your phone. We include no ad, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs. The Android ones read pictures on the phone only. The full list of open-source code and its licences is on our licences page.

SDKWhat it doesCompany
PostHogCounts the anonymous usage events listed above, in the app and on this website, under the consent rules described below. Cookieless on the website. We ask it not to store IP addresses.posthog.com
Google ML Kit (Android)Reads faces and text on pictures, on the phone, to help pick the best shot and find forwarded greeting images. Runs on the phone only; none of your photos are sent to us. Google's ML Kit may report its own usage or performance data to Google, as its documentation describes.google.com
MediaPipe (Android)Compares how alike two pictures look, on the phone only. Nothing is sent anywhere.google.com
Apple StoreKit (iPhone)Handles the one $9.99 purchase and restoring it. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card, name or email.apple.com
Google Play Billing (Android)Handles the same purchase on Android. Google processes the payment; we never see your card, name or email.google.com

When the usage events are on

The events are anonymous: no name, no account, no advertising identifier and no identify call. We ask PostHog not to store IP addresses.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, judged by your phone’s region, the events are off until you turn them on when the app first opens. Everywhere else they are on by default, and the app tells you so when it first opens. In every country there is a switch in Settings that is always reachable, so you can turn them off or on at any time.

How deleting works

Nothing is deleted without your confirmation. You can review every item first.

  1. Into the review bin

Nothing is deleted while you sort. Anything you mark goes into the app's own bin, where you see every item and the total size.

  2. Your phone asks you

One button hands the batch to your phone, which shows its own confirmation. If you cancel, nothing is deleted.

  3. About 30 days to change your mind

Your phone keeps deleted items for about 30 days (some gallery apps differ). On iPhone they wait in Recently Deleted, so you can change your mind. On Android 11 or newer they wait in the trash.

On Android the app needs Android 11 or newer. On iPhone, if iCloud Photos is on, deleting here also deletes from iCloud and your other devices.

This site counts visits without cookies and without storing anything in your browser, so a return visit looks like a new one. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, it doesn’t count you at all. Our hosting company, Vercel, keeps ordinary server logs that include your IP address, to run and protect the site. There are no ads and no forms.
